With all I have invested in time and money in my trees, I too worry when I go on a vacation.
However, what I have found to be very helpful is to write out specific instructions on what needs to be done and when. E.g. my watering schedule is to be done daily between 4 and 7 p.m. I have also made up a calender checklist so that when the person does the task, they should check it off. I don't know if they follow it exactly as I indicated, but it give a level of accountability that most people will try to achieve for you to show you that they are doing as you have asked. |

Hi Dick,
I to have wrote out schedule for watering and stuff, it just worries me that to them they are just 'plants' but they mean a lot more to me, i did think of not going on holiday but the wife wasn't amused at that idea, so I will have to trust them and I have let them know that if anything happens to my tree's they better move to another country or face my wrath

| I'm certain that if you express your concerns to them, they will be diligent. |

Hello bonsaimad
Heard not long ago, and read a post on another bonsai site tonight, that if bonsai are in free-draining soil they cannot be over-watered, and that people with large collections of trees water everyday using hoses. It was different in the early days, apparently. when the soil used was not as free-draining and trees sat in water.
The trees in some collection are also misted at intervals throughout the day, 8 or 9 times, even in hot sunny weather.
If you would like to read the post, I'll pass it to you.
Bye,
Penny. |
