I have had a bonsai in the past and I killed it. Embarassed Someone is giving me a mimosa sapling from their yard. Is it possible to train it into an indoor bonsai. I am at a loss of how to even go about it. Any help would be appreciated.

Unfortunately, mimosas are an outdoor tree, since I assume that it is hardy in your area. But that being the case it can be grown as an outdoor bonsai. Do you want help with that?

Bummer, not I am looking for a bonsai for my office. Any other suggestions tree wise? I am in the Midwest of the us where it is hot and humid in the summers and cold and verily dry in the winter...but I guess that doesn't matter for indoor bonsai.

ima24nut.
You could consider Fukien Tea, a small leafed Fig, Schefflera or perhaps Crassula Arborescens if you might neglect the watering at all. Try to do some reading on indoor bonsai first if possible.

I agree with Stymie. There are several indoor trees that can be cultivated as bonsai with good success. But do the reading ahead of time and come back and let us know what you want to try. Then we can be more specific with our information/recommendations.

One word of caution. Don't fall for a serissa as an easy to grow indoor bonsai. They look great but are extremely difficult to maintain in normal living/working environments.

If its an office situation, some provision for maintaining moisture over any two day absences will have to be considered.

Also many indoor trees can be fussy so once they are given a spot to live try to make it permanent. They will also need to be rotated once a week to give even sun to all sides.
