Dear all,
Have had my bonsai (hackberry) since Christmas 2004 and has been healthy up to now. In the last few weeks the soil has formed mould on the surface and on closer inspection today i can see small insects and transparent worms, ugh! can anyone help please?
treatments etc,
Many thanks

Hello Phil and welcome.
Its a worry I know but don't despair. The first line of action will be to spray and water with a few drops of soft soap or detergent added. This is a gentle remedy and will do no harm. It can be repeated on alternate days. If this doesn't clear things up, try a dose of Provado (available in your garden centre or nursery) following the printed instructions meticulously. Please read the sticky thread above and give as much information as possible, in particular where you keep it and what kind of planting medium it is in. Come back as often as you like. |

| Sounds suspiciously like fungus gnats. Do a site search with that title and you will come up with a lengthy discussion on these critters. Don't worry, they are not injourous to plants and only feed on the decaying matter in the soil. |
