I found it in a garden and at first I thought it was some kind of conifer but deciduous seed leaves are emerging from the bottom of the pod.
I apologize for the poor picture quality but can anyone identify it?

Hard to see but if that seed husk is the shape of half an aeroplane propeller then I'd say its a sycamore of some kind

Unless it was a heavily deformed seed I wouldn't say so.
It is about 5mm thick and about an inch long and resembles a splinter of wood.

I second the sycamore suggestion, although it could potentially be another maple or even an ash key.

if you want a definite answer, you'l;l have to take another pic, focused on the seed, not the carpet.... If you find it hard to get the camera to focus on it, hold your hand right up against the seed whilst ficusing, then take it away just before taking the picture.

It does look like a sycamore seedling. I have two 30 year old sycamore trees in my garden so I'm seeing these lil' buggers sprouting up all the time.
If you could get a side view photo we'll be able to see it better, I'm 99% sure it is a sycamore.

It looks like Fraxinus excelsior( Ash)

you don't need to insert the [url] before or after the address, I'm sure one of the moderators will be kind enough to remove these when they see the links
