Elm would be happier outside Amit. I would recommend one of the fig varieties as easiest for your indoor culture. Good light and moist air will benefit them when inside. Anything starting with 'Ficus' would be a fig. You may find them in supermarkets locally but get one early, as soon as they appear, because supermarket care normally leaves something to be desired.

I like the ficus varieties also but I also recommend scheffleras and fukien teas for indoor culture. They are not difficult to grow.

thanks guys.
I think I will just pop down to a bonsai shop and see what they have.
The serrissa is now out side and most of the leaves are gone..
The few that remain are brown and withered.. but not crispy. When pulling at them.. they are well attached to the tree still.
The tree is still producing suckers so not quite dead yet.. although I cant see any evidence of new growth at the top of the tree.
Is it worth leaving the sucker in place this time and starting from scratch so to speak? or should i chop it to give the top of the tree more resources to recover?

I would say "Nothing ventured, nothing gained." in this case.

Yes. They are sapping the energy from the roots from going to the main tree. If your tree has any chance of making iut back to health, the suckers will inhibit it from doing so.
