Hello. I am thinking of trying my first bonsai, but noone around my area sells them, and I cannot afford to have one shipped to me as I have no credit card. So my question....
Can you shape and train a juniper bonsai from the little juniper trees sold at most all nurseries and wal-mart? |

Yes, you can. The local discount department and home repair stores are sources for starting a bonsai collection.
Look for the variety juniper procumbens nana. It's inexpensive and easy to work with.
Welcome to the forum. It's a very friendly place for all your questions. Come back again! |

Also, if there is an IKEA near you they often sell indoor plants very cheap which can easily be turned into indoor trees.
I got my Jade Tree from IKEA for a few pounds, and it is now very happily potted and soaking up the sun in my winter room |

Any garden centre will have good stuff sometimes too. Try to find something with a stout, nicely shaped lower trunk and interesting looking bark.
