hey guys,

not been on for a while but yesterday i rescued a large serrisa, well, hopefully. bassicly it looks dead, all the leaves have dried up and fell off i saw it about to get binned and asked if i could check it out, under inspection, i peeled back a little of the bark in a few places on the tree from top to bottom and it was still a little green, so asked if i could buy it, and was told i could have it for free if i buy the pot, so i did.

now, can it be saved, and whats the best way to do it ? at hte mo im keeping it under my gazeebo so its getting no direct sunlight, its not being given any food, and just watering to keep moist, anything more/different i should do ?
(i have a pic but need to resize it, will do that 2moz)
Thanks

Kev

So much has been written about them on here Kev that I am reluctant to add anything. Check the A-Z submission about them from Dick and in addition consider fashioning a mini greenhouse or plastic covering to keep the moisture in.
I hope that the pot is a good one Rolling Eyes

I know I'm only a white belt but the following has worked for me.

Place the Serissa on a humidity tray.Get a clear plastic bag (Morrisons are good) and stick it over the tree, pot and tray. Put the tree in the shade, water lightly when soil feels dry. Check every day for signs of leaf buds and fungal growth. Once the buds are established remove the bag but keep the tree in the shade. Wait until the leaves are established before taking it out of the shade.

I've mentioned this on this site before and people wrote back to say it might cause fungal infections on the tree. These folks know a lot more about Bonsai than I do so you may not want to do this....

Hello jjb.

Thanks very much for telling us what worked for you.

Belt colour doesn't matter at all. It only shows the number of posts made, not the quality, so jump right in any time.

Water and shade worked for mine too. The soil was very dry, so I soaked it in a bucket first, then put it in a sunny window in my kitchen and kept the soil moist and misted the branches every now and then. It took almost a month before any improvement could be seen. I've posted pix in The Classroom on the Heat Stroke thread. Good luck with yours and keep us posted!
