Hi everybody! Brand new to the forums and brand new to bonsai's. One of the main reasons I joined was that I have a quick question about my new bonsai -
I bought it about a week ago at a festival in Western PA and the dude that sold it to me had it marked as a 'Lingustrum (although the dude's penmen ship was less than stellar - it could be ' Ungustrum). Anyways, I tried doing a search on the name and came up with nothing. All I know is that it's a tropical - outside with misting and lots of water in the summer and inside in a well lit area in the winter.
Ya - for some reason, I'm not buying that it's that easy. Anyways, if anyone could help me out and let me know if there is such a bonsai as 'Lingustrum' and where I could find some info on it (how to care for it especially) I would appreciated it greatly. For some reason, I'm almost worried that the guy who sold it to me may have misspelled the actual name of the plant (hense me not being able to find any info on the net) I'd really like to keep this plant alive as long as possible.
Thanks again for all your help everyone - look forward to your responses. |

Hi Hot Toddy,
So near, it would be a ligustrum and I'm sure a search for that would yield better results. It is a type of privet and will fair well outdoors.
Best of luck with the tree.
John. |

| Jonh's post is very accurate. They make vine bonsai trees. The roots grwo rapidly and the plant needs daily watering outdoors to stay healthy. Keep at it and read about bonsai care and you should be well on your way in this hobby. |
