Hello everyone,

I recently won an e-bay auction for a starter kit for a privet and have now received it but it is little baby tree compared to my other tree, so I have a few questions, just so I don't end up killing it.

How often do privets need to be watered?
Do you water seedlings the same as older trees?
I have been watering in for about 15-20 minutes every 2-3 days depending how moist the soil is. The tree seems happy and healthy with this but the weather has been quite hot this week so it's needed extra water anyway and I wouldn't notice yet if I had over-watered it.

Please help

Suki.
There's virtually no difference between young and mature plants. The way forward is to ensure a 'just moist' condition in the medium at all times. Don't get regimented by timing. The criteria is the condition of the planting medium.
I'm intrigued by the 15 to 20 minutes watering time. Does this mean that you are submerging the pots? That shouldn't be necessary once the total rootball is moist. Just water from the top as needed to keep them damp.
