basically wiring is done to shape a trees trunk or and branches to acquire a design. There is different size wire depending on the thickness of branches. I would advise you (as you say) to buy a book to help you on your way, as wrong wiring could damage the tree. and yes you can wire a oak

If wiring a young tree be careful the wire doesn't cut into the bark.
An oak is a slow grower but can still grow into the wire very quickly.

If your tree's trunk is tall enough to be able to give it shape without creating a bunch of bends that you'll regret at full height then by all means go for it.

This is the stage of development when some people would insert a cane close to the trunk and twist the trunk loosely around it. After a growing season, the cane would be removed and the tree will have set into the slight corkscrew shape. Wiring would of course present a more varied choice of shapes.

By the way, you have a great name. Cool
