Hi A couple of months ago I received two identical trees but I don't know what they are. One of them was having problems from the start but now both seem to be infected.

There seems to be some type of fungus around the trunk of the trees that is causing the to die off branch by branch. First the leaves turn crispy brown from the trunk to the tip of the branch. No new leaves grow and after a week the whole branch is dried out. What seems to be causing it is something that looks like calcium sweating from the trunk. We have relatively soft water here and I let it stand at least a day before using it so it can't be calcium. The white substance is not on the roots but seems to also cause the bark to decompose. I'll try to add a picture to this tread.

I hope someone can help me.

Showing a photo is really needed for anyone to determine what the problem is and what type of tree it is so it will help to give you the proper appraoch and possible treatment. But you cannot post a photo directly to this part of the forum, you need to be registered and place the photo in the School part of this forum or give an address to a websirte where your photo has been uploaded.

If you do not have a fungus and you treat it, then you are only cause your tree to be under more stress. That's why the photo will be so helpful.

Good luck!
