Hi there, I want to buy another bonsai and I have decided that I want to purchase a juniper but all the ones i've looked at online are very expensive, I therefore thought I'd buy some seeds and grow the tree that way but my book have advised me not too and to purchase a seedling instead which you can grow and style yourself. I was wondering where I can buy a good seedling online and how are bonsai's sent in the mail? |

| Its much easier and more usual to grow Juniper from cuttings, which you will be able to obtain readily (with permission of course). There's plenty about and garden nurseries usually stock a variety of inexpensive ones. This latter source would be the quicker option. Look for the smaller foliage when choosing one. |

Hello Suki.
Nice to meet you. I've just bought a juniper from my local garden centre for around £5. You should find a lot of material to work with in garden centres.
Good luck.
Penny. |

Hi Suki
The information that has been posted is correct. However, if you want other seedlings, there are some that are available in eBay. Others can be obtained form nurseries specializing in seedlings. If you look around, they are not too hard to find. |

Thank you everyone,
I have now decided that I am going to get a starter kit for the Japanese privet (Linstrum) please excuse the Latin spelling if it's not correct. The reason for this is because it's another indoor tree to go with my serissa.
However I am going to go to my local garden centre on saturday to see if they sell junipers and if they do, I'll pick one up.
One question though I just realized that the Juniper is an outdoor tree, I'm only used to indoor ones how should I treat this tree differently?
What months should it be outside? Where should I put it, in a shady place or sunny? Is it more susceptible to infestations and infections, should I routinely use pesticides etc?[/u] |

Juniper - outside all year in Bridgend. Part sun when young or just re-styled, otherwise full sun. Prune by pinching out foliage tips. Don't cut them or they'll go brown. Fertilise as for your other stuff but stop from the end of September until March. Keep the soil just moist, pretty much the same except for the location. They're mainly pest and infection free so don't mend them unless they're broken.

Hi Suki,
Most of my seedlings have been from e-bay. However, there is a nursery called Bodiam Bonsai Farm that will post out seedlings. They have a wide range available and at a good price.

| Yep, as soon as I move house I'll be getting a few from there... I'd have one of each if I had the space! |
