i recently got my first bonsai.and it doesnt look much like a bonsai.it is a chinese elm.i need some advice on pruning te poor thing.could you possibly tell me how to make it look like a bonsai tree tham a bush.

@Was the tree already potted as a bonsai? if so, then the person who pottedt it already started to make it look like a bonsai, even though it does not meet what you think it should look like.
If you were a registered member (highly recommended), you could post a photo of the tree and get better feedback on what it might look like after pruning and shaping.
Good luck. I hope that you are growing the tree outdoors! It's not an indoor variety and it may die if it doesn't get an outdoor environment.

| I second Dick's advice about the location Paul. Obtaining full membership here will allow you to submit photographs on our full list of forums. Also, you will find coverage of your particular tree in our A-Z, which you will find particularly helpful. It is rather difficult to give specific styling advice without seeing the current shape of your tree. Meanwhile keep the medium in which it is planted just moist. If there are rocks glued on top, these should be removed completely to facilitate watering efficiency. There is no urgency for anything else. The tree is having a period in which to adjust to its new surroundings. |
