I couldn't find the old Wollemi pine thread, so I've posted a new one. Apparently, sapling are going on sale with an expected price tag of £850.

Quote:
DINOSAUR TREE SALE

SAPLINGS of a 40-metre high tree which used to be a snack for dinosaurs and was thought to be extinct are to be put up for sale.

The Wollemi pines are expected to fetch £850 each at Sotheby's auction in Sydney next month.

A Kew Gardens spokes-man said: "The idea is to conserve the tree by selling it commercially."

A cluster of the 90- million-year-old conifers was discovered in 1994, 125 miles west of Sydney.

No, £850 is a bit steep for me. Besides, it's Sotheby's in Australia. Apparently, they've got one in Kew though. Perhaps you could nip down to London and take a cutting. Wink

I'd be more scared of the Kew gardeners chasing me with chainsaws. Laughing

Is that the tree, thought to be extinct, that was discovered by a botanist wandering into canyons in Australia? I saw a very good programme on TV about it. Kew have propagated the species and will be sending them round the world.

Hello everyone, Just found this exciting thread.

I have been to have a look via helicopter at these trees in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney.

It was actually a friend of mine in a chopper that located the pines by air first then a team went in on the ground but the credit has been given to the ground crew for discovery...
Rightly so...Its a big walk to get there.

I will be obtaining seedlings very shortly to transform into bonsai...

I've been waiting for years for this occasion.
Happy growing
