Hi Roy..
I am impressed!!
Well done, the only thing I would suggest is to get more taper to the top apex by wiring up a side branch. You could also cut the branches a touch more to make it compact, but make sure you leave some foliage on the branch other wise you will kill the branch, also you could wire them downward to give the age old impression...
But hey good job!! Well done, take care, Lance |

Roy.
I think that its a blue Juniper. I hope that you haven't done too much too soon. Thats a lot of trauma to suffer. Your vision may be further on but I think that it now needs a season of rest and recuperation. Don't subject it to full sun this year. A course of 'Superthrive' may help it to survive the ordeal. Good luck.

Hi Roy
When the tree recovers a bit, remove or wire branches and foliage that goes either straight up or down. Trim the outline to be more of a triangle shape, and as Lance says wire up a high branch to be the new leader and get some taper.
I think you need to trim the jin down a bit, as it is too prominent at the moment. Carve it with a bit more taper, and wrap it in foil, apply gentle heat with a blowtorch or candle and you will be able to bend it downwards a bit.
A good start, and in a year or two it could be a very nice bonsai |

| I would not do anything with it this year except to pinch back the growing tips to encourage budding back. |

What's up Roy,
Wow! Great work, the transformation was amazing. Did you add any superthrive or anything of that effect to reduce the trauma on the tree, because after reading that even i felt alittle weak. I hope considering the time of year that it was not too much of a shock for your tree. Have you done this much to a tree at this time of year before and if you have what did you do different to make them survive. Making one of the upper branches into Jin would be nice too. |

Hello Mo, yes i did add some superthrive to the water when i moved it into the pot, I will add more superthrive the next time I have to water it.
I have never done this to a tree at this time of the year before, I just hope it survives the work i have carried out.
I'm pleased with the advice I have been given from the forum users, which will all help with looking after the tree. |

well Roy, you could have fooled me because you did all that with such confidence it almost seems that you have done that at this time of year before. You did create a spectacular tree, a credit to your confidence. i don't think I could have done that myself at this time of year. Good luck with it.

Very nice material. I agree with Ed, I think I would have left more foliage at the bottom and reduced the top down to the 3 bar branches, but left a stub to jin and left it to recover for a year. Looks to have a very nice root pad. For the trunk diameter I think it needs shortened. I think I'd remove all the or most of the jinned branches at the bottom except the fat one, that would be shortened and carved a lot. There are smaller jinned branches below the huge fat one. Looks out of balance. With them removed completely they could heal and give the tree better taper.
Looks like fun.

Hi Roy,
I'm in agreement with the idea of jsut letting it rest for this coming growing season. That was a large tree and it had a dramatic change in growing coditions., especially at the roots level. Letting it rest for a season will go a long way to making it strong and healthy in the long term.
Also, everytime you water, for the next month or so, use Superthrive in the water. it will< | |
