yes, I've grown lemons from seed (although not for bonsai) I planted about 5 seeds as a teenager (10-12 years ago, I think). My mum keeps the resulting tree in a pot on her patio, and it's about 6 feet tall now.

At the whim of my girlfriend, I planted a grapefruit seed about 2 years ago, it is still growing today, though still quite small.

I have a grapefruit grove (3 trees) that was planted ~20 years ago. Not only still living, but one of the heartiest of my lot. They had never been trained, so I trunk chopped them all and they all came back, then about two years later, I leaf pruned it. This poor group has been thru frost damage and sun damage. It has responded very well to all the bonsai tricks I've learned and tried on it. Very happy tree.

I have a Meyer lemon and a Persian lime tree that are about 2 1/2 feet tall that produce fruit, though I don't grow them as bonsai.
