I bought a zelkova from M&S about 2 years ago , just recently I went to dobbies and found a more suitable pot, previous it was in a round plastic pot. I have now re-potted in to the new pot.

It lives on my kitchen window sill, and I and I have just been reading some of the posts on elms , mine has leggy small branches with a few leaves on the ends. Would it be better off in my Garden. Smile

Hi Nigel, welcome to bonsai help!
Yes it must be outside where mother nature meant it to be, if left indoors it will survive for a while but the new growth will long, leggy and weak with greater spacing between the leaves.
If you are experiencing the same cold snap as the rest of the U.K. I would wait until it has passed before putting it outside. Gradually acclimatise it to living outside. You can do this by putting it outside during the day then place it in a garage/ shed over night for about 2 weeks the it should be ok to leave it out permanently

The guidance for Chinese elm at the top of this forum is equally applicable to Zelkova.
