i bought one from a garden centre yesterday. it looked really ill and pale. soon as i got home i cleaned it up a bit and repotted it. like 24 hours later (which is today) it looks really healthy again. not the best of shapes but it kinda stole me from the second i saw it.
i bought the pot a few weeks ago because it was pretty cheap and lucky i did buy it. seems to sit rather nicely in it.

| I hope you're keeping it outside in some indirect sunlight for the next few weeks while it rests up. |

| The Chinese elm has become the standard tree for all sorts of bonsai retail sales. Every kioosk, every mall, every garden center wants to cash in on their popularity and so they sell them by the tons as indoor plants when they do much better outdoros. And as a result, they are not all that expensive and really are easy to grow, but outrdoors not in. So I understand what you would want to rescue them. They deserve better care than what they get once they get to retail outlets. |

If I bought every elm I had seen over the last year I would have enough for a forest by now |

Totally agree, as i mentioned in another thread, rescued one myself about a week ago, totally bald, and dry, had a couple of tiny buds, dry as a bone, sat with other elms all dry with huge leaves and spindly growth, clearly not given enough light or water.
Now hes repotted, superthrived, and sat under my growlight, has recovered greatly, lots of new buds, which are opening up, they did give it to me for nothing as they thought it was dead, so a bargain really.
Quick question, is it ok under the growlight for a few more days to pep it up a bit, then get him outside once hes a bit stronger and greener? |

| Natural light outdoors will probably be even stronger than your electrical source and its cheaper too. |

yea its outside on the windowsill. its not in indirect sunlight to be honest but it hasnt really been an issue because its been wet and miserable but i will put it on the windowsill of the living room where the sun rises. its a really good spot because the sun after about 12pm moves around and away from the living room. |
