Nice one.
Did you grow it from a supermarket nut or did you have to order it? |

| It would be interesting to know your system for keeping it going, whereabouts it lives etc. Everyone on here will devour the info. |

its kept at the front of my house on a paved area as i don't have a garden and which gets a reasonable amount of sunshine in the morning. I re-potted it this year using cat litter mixed with compost and sand but other than that i just talk to it regularly and water it every day. It has my oak tree on one side and the hawthorn on the other so its not lonely |

| Have you noticed a significant reduction in the leaf size. From the picture it seems like the leaves are still quite young and have not elongated yet. Curious to know if you have gotten them to reduce at all since walnut tend to have massive leaves..compound at that. |

They are reputed to yield nuts at six years old but I think the bonsai container will have some influence in that field. |

I treat it like a real tree otherwise it may get a complex about being small Real tree's don't get taken in during the winter so your answer is yes it's left out all the time. The leaves haven't reduced a great deal in size but they are getting a bit smaller each year. |

What a nice looking tree, i was wondering about the leaves as well, have you defoliated it at all or are they that size purely because of the size of the pot? I was given a young Walnut tree in a pot a while back but i thought it wouldn't make a very good bonsai because of the size of the leaves, it is now planted in the ground in an allotment. i am very envious. |

Hi, Don. That's a nice looking little tree. I'm curious to know how you got it to germinate in the first place. Was it a very fresh nut? Most of the ones that I get seem to be rather dry and shrivelled inside. How do you plant them? In the shell? Out of the shell? Can you tell us how you did it ?

| These were advertised as freshly grown local walnuts so i got 3 and put them into pots outside and forgot about them until this one popped its head up. I left them in the shell and just put them into ordinary compost. The other two didn't germinate unfortunately. My idea of gardening is 'If Mother nature likes it she will help it to grow'. |

I guess fresh and locally grown is the secret then. I must look out for some.
