|
|
| I am attempting to make a maple bonsai forest but saw an idea that I would love to try. I want to have the trees on both sides and a "river" in the middle but I don't know how to keep the water in the "river" and how to form the soil so that it does erode. Any ideas? I see it done in pictures but have no one to ask! Thanks! |

They make pots for this and the name of them escapes me at the moment. It's going to drive me nuts now. Someone will be along with the name soon I'm sure.
On another note what part of the world are you in? For the northern hemisphere I'm sure you know it's not a good time to do any potting. |

put a piece of mirror in the middle to represent water and build the soil up either side of it then you will always have the water there. |

Another alternative to suggest a watercourse would be to use a ribbon of silver sand.
You don't indicate your whereabouts in your profile either mpoland. May I suggest that you read the sticky posts above which are addressed to new posters and give as much information as possible including where you intend to keep the proposed forest and your level of experience in bonsai. |

| I apoligize everyone, I am new to this site...new as in my first post. I'll take note of those tabs. I'm in Maryland and plan to keep the bonsai outside on my screened in porch. I have 4 bonsai's right now (japanese maple, juniper, ficus, and umbrella plant) but have only been studying for less than a year. I went to a class and the women there suggested for some of us to try it. I've bought 6 japanese maple trees and a pot (probably not the kind I need) and just wanted to give it a shot. Thanks! |

the water pot is a suiban, for landscapes or showing off rocks.
not sure about a stream, most i've seen have a pool at one end. |

Not sure a suiban would be suitable for a tree as there are no drainage holes |

| the one i'm thinking of has 2 sections, one for the tree, with drainage holes, and one section without holes, glazed inside, for water. |

they are called land and water pots
but ive never seen one where you can have trees either side with a stream in the middle
I would use pale sand to indicate a stream, or a mirror as suggested, or make a non porous channel from fiberglass or something |
