I can't be sure but it looks like some sort of damage from insect larvae. I would maybe spray it with insecticide or washing up liquid/water mix.

walnuts leafs often suffer damage as the year goes on - ive seen much worse than that
itll either be insect - spray with insecticide
or fungus / blackspot - spray with fungicide
or environmental - scorch etc -
I wouldnt worry - its quite superficial |

| My first thoughts were blackspot but it doesn't look that bad. is there plenty of air circulation around the tree? |

There is plenty of air circulation. I sprayed it tonight and hopefully that will stop it. Scorch? During this summer? Not much chance of that
I'll see what the spray does for it |

| It's a very common occurance on walnuts and not harmful to the tree, only unsightly. It's not a fungus either and most probably from insect damage of dome sort. |

| If the problem worsens on the afflicted leaves or if it seems to be spreading, you can always remove the offensive leaves andf destroy them. That usually will keep things in check. |
