| Hi to you all out there i am finally able to get back on line and talk to all you great people.i need help on two subjects.first does anybody know where to obtain seeds from in the UK ,second can anybody tell me what the different zones are that i see when looking for seeds on an American site.i know a lot of you are probably saying "no not seeds" but i am getting my daughter interested in this great hobby she is only 13 so she has a long time ahead of her to learn from both seed grown and trees we have created between us any advice and help will be greatly received |

Well done you! At a bonsai class our teacher was telling us that a few days previous a lady and her daughter presented before him a Japanese black pine that they grew from seed some 18yrs ago!they have never so much as touched the tree, apart from the obvious repots...the last being over 6yrs ago.The tree was in great health...next yr they plan on bringing it back to him for re potting and styling, they left with the utmost admiration from a serious bonsai artist! |

Nevermind what people say, go for it.
i have 19 young trees i've grown from seed, it's very satisfying to see them sprout and begin to grow.
i also have a few cuttings just starting to root. i see it all as part of the learning process. |

| If seed is fresh and native to our part of the world, the best way is to let nature take care of it outside. Coddling seedlings leads to weak spindly growth which is undesireable. I wouldn't start it at my age but I have 18 feet high trees in my garden which I started as seeds forty something years ago.. |

most of my plants are seedlings that I started years ago. last year I planted more japANESE maples (red), my kids are going to be working on them with me. I have purchased cuttings and have started several thousand cuttings, the biggest thing is time waiting for them to grow. getting the kids involved and outside is great in my book |
