I wondered why the leaves where looking sticky recently!
I have this tree as an indoor bonsai and it is near a window for best sunlight.
I've sprayed it with soapy water like I've been told. Can anyone else recommend anything i should do?

The soap solution is not systemic so a second application after ten days may be necessary to catch any that were hiding.
If you can turn the tree upside down and dunk the top growth into the solution without losing the compost, that will ensure that all parts are treated.

Your tree would be happier outside, particularly now that the warmer weather is coming in.

Thanks stymie!

Silly question but i presume any soap solution is ok...there aren't any soaps that could be damaging to the tree are there?

Does the soap deter the greenfly or kill them?
Any insecticides you recommend?

I'm amazed that greenfly got on the tree...what attracted them to it? Surely it's more of a problem if the tree is outside and easily accessible to the greenfly?

Sorry for all the questions...but me beginner..and you master Smile

Actually, greenfly on outdoor trees have a whole bunch of natural preditors what kill them and do not harm your tree.

Any soap will due. If the problem persists, it may be needed to use a solution with a poison in its engredients.

Sometimes people can remove aphids by pressure spraying with water only.
The soap isn't going to do any harm to the tree, not even if it gets into the compost but it will kill the nasties by blocking their pores or whatever they have in comparison Rolling Eyes . I personally avoid the scenty concoctions but even they are reputed to be okay. This all started with old fashioned soft soap but the boys and girls are even using washing up liquid now.
Don't over kill by using any chemicals yet. This should be sufficient to kill the aphids. If you still have them after a fortnight, then try a systemic insecticide. Keep us posted.
