HI All,
my little 10 year old elm has been through alot in the year I have had it. We moved three weeks after I had purchased him and was quite worried about an outdoor place for him. Luckily, there were some wall baskets left by the previous owners which allowed him to sit happily there about five feet off the ground, in mid morning & early afternoon sun.
He was very happy until early this year he was blown over by a huge gale and was found on the damp walk way with a broken pot the next day. Worried I managed to fix the pot and get him back in, one of his branches broke, but nothing too disastrous. Anyway in March we went on holiday for two weeks and the person I had entrusted to water him failed to turn up, well once and then forgot to water him. So... his leaves had all fallen off and he looked dead. But having read this site I scrapped away some bark and it was still alive! Hurrah, however it must have been touch and go because it took weeks before he showed life signs - I was very happy.
So all I wanted to say was thanks for the advice, I don't really post just read the info. Oh, I do have a question - re potting? Should I think about it now or wait longer.
He is a Chinese elm, 10 years old, I have had him a year and purchased him from a specialist.
We are in East London, UK.

well first of all, welcome
wow your poor elm  . but maybe you will take more precautions when you lend it to friends. but lukily it is still kikin' and hopefully still will.

Hello Heur.
Firstly, if your tree still lives on that wall, turn it 90 degrees each week to prevent it from getting lop sided. Keep the compost just moist at all times and feed twice a month with a half strength balanced fertilizer, stopping the feed at the end of September.
Secondly, re-pot next March as the new buds are swelling, using a free draining mix.
