I think that the main reason is to increase paying members numbers, and for a few bucks you can use it again.
The older members had this discussion when Andrew made bonsai help a membership forum instead of a free forum. All in all its a good deal, I doubt you will find help from people like Stymie and Dick anywhere else. |

I've become a member recently and I think it's a small price to pay, well worth it.

I'm not the resident expert on the forum, only a contributing member and moderator of some of the areas. However, I have been on several other bonsai forums that were free and was never satisfied with them. Many places were also contentious in the postings. You had to place your experience at risk by posting a message.
Here, we are a much more user friendly lot. We pride ourselves with patience to answer questions that have been posted several times before and we provide sound advice and information based upon a collective of hundreds of years of bonsai experiences from the members who post to this forum, such as Stymie and me and so many others. So for a very small and nominal fee, that's what you're getting. If it's important and informative to your practice of the hobby, it's not an expense; it's a membership in an "international cyber bonsai club" that meets on a daily basis.
I highly recommend that everyone who logs on to this portion of the forum become a fully registered member of our "club."
Hope this answers some of your questions. |

I may not be the best person to answer this as I picked up my 12 month subscription on eBay - and it was exceedingly cheap. Already I've had much, much more value than the amount I paid, and I have every intention of continuing my membership at full cost when my subscription falls due. Just browsing through the various forums has been extremely helpful, and the attitudes of the various people posting replies make one feel quite comfortable in asking questions.
Try it, Peanuts - it's worth every cent - and check out eBay - there were other subscriptions available when last I looked - for (pardon the pun) peanuts.
Cheers

I've not regretted paying my few £'s subscription, even though there are other "free sites" to join. I enjoy the posts and photos, and feeling as though I belong to a little community of like-minded people.
Give it a go!
Penny. |

| We hunger to help. This is a great group and some of us have been together for a few years now. I feel like I know a few of personally even though we've never spoken a word. I think any who try this forum in it's full glory will understand what I mean in a very short time. |

Funny that you mentioned it being that long ago. I remember signing up for BonsaiHelp before it actually started. |

| Bonsaihelp was on line before and has been re-introduced after being off for a spell. Quite a number of us were contributors on the original site also. |
