can anyone tell me what sort of bonsai this is (indoor/outdoor etc), I have one similar to this but as a novice have no idea on caring for it, at the moment there are no leaves on it (which i think may meanit has died) but if anyone can help i would be grateful....
thanks

The tree you have is a Chinese elm. It's very commonly sold as bonsai. It's and outdoor plant for the most part. Depending on where you live that might also mean that it should stay outdoors in the winter also. It should have good morning and evening sun with some shade in the midday. It should probably be watered daily if it is growing in a porous soil that freely drains.
There is more information about this tree on the A-Z forum. |

It's a Chinese Elm, which wants to live outside in a semi shaded are, but was probably sold as an indoor tree.
As it has no leaves, please don't be tempted to over water it, just keep the soil moist. You could scratch away a tiny bit of the bark from an inconspicuous area to see if the tree is alive, healthy and green inside.
Best wishes and good luck.

Hi thanks for the info, I will try that later on, at first i had it indoors as it was sold as an indoor tree, once the leaves fell off i thought i may aswell try it outside, just to see if it came back to life...
once again thanks, however I may try a new one as i think it could be dead now, is there any which are easier to look after than others?
cheers guys! |

| Welcome to the forum. Elms are fairly easy to look after once you understand how to do it. Junipers, Japanese maples, and cotoneaster are also good starter trees. Most trees will be fairly forgiving if you give them the necessary things for their survival. Sun, water, food and proper soil are all important to trees. |
