Anyone know of a bonsai clubs or nurseries in/near the Bay area in San Francisco or Oakland CA?

I will be travelling there in July and want to plan a visit to some nurseries around the area.

Yes, there are a few places to go.

In Hayward, CA, there's Johnny Uchida's Grove Way Nursery (this is a very good one) located right on Grove Way.

In Berkeley, CA, there's Yabusaki's Dwight Way Nursery located on on Dwight Way. (pretty good selection of bonsai trees and nursery stock)

In Sebastopol, there's Long Pine Gardens and nearby there is Miniature Plant Kingdom, but these are about 50 miles north. There are also a couple a very good bonsai nurseries near Sacramento, but they are also about an hour's drive away.

The first two are probably the best of them, though they are not in SF proper but in one of the suburbs on the east side of the Bay. It's just a short ride away if you're renting a car. Don't know of any places off hand right in SF itself. I've been to all of these places and a few other ones as well and think that the ones I've listed will be the best. At Miniature Plant Kingdom, there are really some very good deals on small bonsai not in bonsai pots but waiting to be planted in them. It's worth the trip if you're into the drive. I can give you more specific addresses if you need them so that you can get mapquest directions off the internet, based upon where you will be staying in SF.

Hope you enjoy them and your trip.

Thanks for the names Dick,
I actually gone to Yabusa's on Dwight way last year, while staying at SF city, and really liked what I saw.
This time I will be staying in Berkely so I am quite close to it. Can you post/PM some of the adresses other places you mentioned. Thanks

Is climate in the Bay area good for bonsai?

My wife and I may be moving there in the long term, so it would be good to know that it is suitable for outdoor bonsai Smile

What types of trees do well there?
