A friend of mine loaned me a copy of the Bonsai Clubs International magazine for May/June of 1990 (volume XXIX No. 3).
On pg. 10 there is an ad for a product called "PotLock". The ad reads as follows:

"Protect your Bonsai with PotLock.
The Potlock bolts and secures your Bonsai to a wooden shelf through a drainage hole in the pot without restricting drainage."

The ad states the price at $10.00 for 4 Potlocks. There is no picture of the product and the company was based out of Rock Island,IL. here in the U.S. I did a Google search but came up with nothing. Has anyone ever used these security bolts before or even heard of them? Is anyone using a similar product of there own design?

don't see how this protects your trees, only your pots. If the pot is bolted down, it will be simpler for the potential thief just to remove the tree from the pot - makes it lighter to carry, too Twisted Evil

And wouldn't the pots crack if pulled hard enough. Interesting, though, will take a look out of interest, and see what I can find that you can't. Not much I expect!

Thanks meshica. Smile

Essentially there is no fool proof way to secure a bonsai, If a thief wants a tree badly enough, then he will find a way to get it, even if you move it indoors each night.

Perhaps the pot-locks would be better suited to simply secure bonsai from falls due to the weather, birds, squirrels, pets.

As for squirrels Evil or Very Mad and cats Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad they will just pull the tree out of the pot (had some experience with this in the past).
