hi all i have a problem with my blackthorn i live in scotland its a mature tree the leaves have black spots on and any new leaves seem to turn yellow and drop off its planted in free draining soil cheers jim

Hello Jim.
I've been lucky enough to have nothing worse than white fly on my sloe. In your position, I might try a systemic fungicide. Also a routine dose of epsom salts is always helpful with colour retention.
Yes you yanks, there is a U in colour Embarassed that is at least for Scots and English.
