Hi, All
Could some one be able to explain why some of the new needles have swelled, a bit like tiny cones, and turned purple.
I know they are not cones!

What you are seeing is the beginning of this years candles I think. In a couple of weeks it will be evident if my suspiciouns arer correct.

the candles have already elongated and the new needles are almost at 45 degrees, i wonder if its a build up sap,

Done some more research on this one Very Happy and took my tree down to the Bonsai club night, It turns out that the tiny little purple coloured cone shapes are in-fact- white pine FLOWER Razz

My botany is pretty rusty but I seem to remember that pines and other conifers don't have flowers! What is called the "flower" is the male cone.

What the hell! Does it matter? I don't think so! I just take pleasure in calling things by the right name if possible. Smile SJ
