Hi gifforjm - I have nine boxwoods like yours, all in pots, the smallest 3" high, the largest about 7" high. I have it in mind to plant them all together as a grouping on a slab one day, but have run up against two problems:
1. They are very "lollipop"- like little trees, just like yours, and I'm kind of wanting them to grow on a bit and to let me cut them and train them into a slightly narrower and more upright outline so I can get the trunks together more, without tangling the foliage too much between trees.
2) They are really quite slow growers - I'm reckoning to do my forest round about 2015 if I'm still around. This point is made just slightly tongue in cheek, but not that slightly - the reality is, in my view, that box is for people who have the patience. While you are waiting for your box tree to grow on a bit, why not acquire something else to grow in faster and give you some more immediate interest? A chinese Elm? A Maple? Even a juniper?
Cheers, and good luck! SJ.

Hi again - I just remembered your other recent posts about the chinese junier etc. So apologies for the "get a different tree" bit! SJ. |

Hi
They are slow growers. I have had this one for about 4 years now and it's not much bigger than it was when I got it. It spent most of the time in a training pot. This year I gave it it's new home. I now need to let the top grow out and hopefully it will be close to a "finished" tree.

Hope this some help.
Cheers

Surrey John - Thank you for the words and your forest planting sounds like it will be nice. I have read bit and i think my best bet is just to put it in the ground for a bit and maybe next year or the year after I'll have some better branches to work with. In the mean time ill work on my Juniper and Ficus.
Andy- Your tree is good looking.I like the off shooting branches. At this time, I have nothing like that on mine.
Thank you both. |
