Hi!

I'm Klaus from Finland. I purchased a fukien tea a month ago. I keep it indoors in a place where it gets plenty of indirect sunlight and about two hours direct sunlight in the late afternoon. I water it once a day and I thought that I was doing everything right. Still almost right away I got the tree it's leafs changed their form.
The leafs edges used to be smooth. Now the edges (especially the tips of the leafs) are rough almost like birchs leaves. Does anyone know what might be the reason for this or is it typical for fukien tea?

Hi Klaus,

Welcome to the forum.

What you are seeing is the normal way fukien tea leaves look. They are not smooth edged, and the top of the leaves have a somewhat serrated (toothed) appearance. As long as the leave are glossy green and the plant seems to be doing well, your care procedures are working. Watch out that watering the tree once per day does not promote root rot. While fukiens like to be evenly moist at the roots all the time, they can also lose roots to rotting easily. Too much water is just as bad as too little.

Klaus.
What is the temperature range of the room where you are keeping your Fukien tea? 15-24C (59-75F) would be acceptable limits for it. Baking in midsummer sun might be the only hazard.

Thank you for the information. The room temperature is aproximitely 21C so it should be ok.
